Regional Connectivity Scheme - UDAN
The Department on behalf of Government of Punjab coordinates with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India to successfully implement the RCS-UDAN.
The primary objectives of the Scheme are:
- to facilitate/ enhance regional air connectivity by making it affordable through fiscal support.
- infrastructure development
- to establish an interacted eco-system which will lead to significant growth of Civil Aviation Sector, promote tourism, increase employment, provide socio economic boost.
- therefore, lead to regional growth of the State.
Government of Punjab provides 20% of Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for the RCS Flights and the 80% is provided by GoI The Department has utilized the Scheme well to ensure connectivity to underserved areas and today has one of the highest density of airports in the country.
