Chandigarh International Airport (CHIAL) at Mohali
In 2008, the Government of Punjab acquired 304 acres of land on the south side of the existing runway in Jheurheri village at a cost of ₹452 crore to build the new international terminal. A cost which was later shared by Government of Haryana against their equity in CHIAL. CHIAL was established as a Joint Venture between Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Governments of Punjab & Haryana; with AAI as the majority stakeholder with 51% equity and the Governments of Punjab & Haryana with an equity share of 24.5% each. The New Terminal Building built at a cost of ₹939 crore was inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister in September 2015. International flights have started operating from this terminal from 15th September 2016.
